Hitting the road

The kind, wise, generous, wonderful people who look after Jack Kerouac’s old house have invited me to spend the fall in Orlando, Florida. For three months, I get to write, write, write.

As you might have guessed, I looked a little like this when I found out:

Three months to write!!! Obviously, I’m going to be working hard on revisions to The Kiss-Off to make it the best possible novel ever. But I’d also like to take on a Kerouac-inspired writing project: maybe a daily poem or flash story?

What do you think? What kind of writing project could I undertake while living in Jack’s house? Share your suggestions in the comments section!

  1. The big thing to do is to make sure that you DONT commit yourself to any side projects (i.e. promising your nerd friends a poem per day). You are there to finish your novel.

    Don’t promise anything else.

  2. Ooh, I like what kentostby said. Finish the novel! Don’t set any other goals that will make you feel guilty or distract you from the novel. If you feel like doing side projects once you get there, great. If not, free yourself of that expectation. So excited for you!
